Gone are the days of a dust-gathering, squeaky trundle bed in a far-flung corner of the house. To get started, don’t be afraid to incorporate subtle textures and dreamy hints of colour. While experimenting with bolder colours can be a bit of a minefield, choosing to feature natural, soft shades of pink, blue or green, which almost appear as more neutral, is an easy way to liven up any space without straying too far away from your comfort zone.

Embracing light-filled spaces is key to creating a warm and inviting room for guests, and skylights are one of the most effective ways to do so. Did you know that Simonds can incorporate skylights into your new home? We love to take advantage of natural lighting and our design team always looks to how we can best maximise the sunlight in our home designs.
If your budget is a bit tighter, consider incorporating larger windows to create a similar effect. Easy design tricks, such as placing a large mirror opposite a window, help to reflect light and give the illusion of a larger space. Choosing the right window furnishings is also important to inject a relaxed-feel to your room, and we can’t go past Australian and family-owned Lovelight and their range of sheer curtains for a touch of softness and sophistication.

To complete the room, cosy and considered spaces such as a small study or mirror nook are thoughtful touches that guests will really appreciate. They also provide an extremely useful, quiet space when working or studying from home, and allow you to keep work separate from the high-traffic living areas. We can easily add convenient LED lighting or bar spots to these cosy corners, and adding timber-look accents into a nook can also beautifully harmonise monochromatic neutral spaces.
