Australia’s First 3D Printed Home

The future of modern sustainable living is coming with construction of Australia’s first 3D printed home.

Contour3D and The Great Australian Builder

are printing the home of the future

Australia’s first 3D printed home is on its way and we’ve teamed up with Contour3D and renowned architect from The Block, Julian Brenchley, to help design and build it.

Families can expect a modern 210 square metre home with 4 bedrooms and flowing living spaces that prioritise energy efficiency more than traditional building methods.

At Simonds, over the last seven decades, we’ve been guided by the same founding principle; everyone deserves to own their own home and realise the Great Australian Dream. During this time, we’ve been a proud leader of the building industry and this partnership with Contour3D and Julian Brenchley signifies the next chapter of innovation in sustainable living and design in Australia.

What can you expect from the first 3D printed home?

The foundations of this 3D printed home are built on resilience and sustainable living. Walls will be constructed with a proprietary blend of cementitious material called ContourCrete. The inherent strength of this material means that this home is predicted to have double the usual life expectancy of a standard home. While from a design perspective, National Design Manager at Simonds Dave Clynk notes “The opportunity to build curved walls relating to a more organic feel, naturally support the business intent to drive towards a net-zero home of the future.”

Build time is one of the biggest factors that customers take into consideration when starting their new home journey. After years of development and research, printing of Australia’s first 3D printed home will be carried out by Contour3D’s latest Opus One printer, halving the time it takes to produce the home.

These groundbreaking advances in sustainability and speed have the power to shape the suburbs of the future. Inspired by the partnership, Dave Clynk says “Simonds Homes and Contour3D will provide future focused homes for generations to come. This is a build technique that will change the way we build homes. In my 33 years of design and construction, I have not had a build method move me emotionally like the Contour3D printed home. This is the way of the future.”
