Week 1

Bathroom Week

After an eventful first week on The Block, best mates from Western Sydney, Omar and Oz, took out top place and the hotly contested $250k reward.

Giving a nod to heritage,

while keeping it contemporary.

With the first week done and dusted, we’ve already seen plenty of drama, lots of mud and heaps of design inspiration to get you thinking about your new Simonds home or budding DIY renovation project.

Renovating an older home isn’t without its challenges, and we’ve already seen the Blockheads grapple with how their rooms can celebrate their home’s history, while still appealing to modern home buyers who search for ease of living and steer away from features that are at risk of dating.

By building a Simonds home, you’ll get quality that lasts for generations to come and all of the benefits of contemporary features, but this doesn’t mean you can’t also instil your space with older character and style inspired by what we’ve been seeing on The Block. If you’re loving all the wall panelling, the luxe bathtubs, and rustic-but-on-trend features, you'll want to keep scrolling.

This week’s bathroom inspiration

from the room reveals on The Block

1. Wall panelling

One week in and we can already tell that wall panelling will be a big feature on this season of The Block. If you’ve visited a Simonds display home recently, like our Highbridge 27 or Whitelock 28, you would've seen panelling featured throughout bedrooms and lounges. But, did you know we can also include it in your bathroom?

There’s a few things to consider first and strict guidelines of where it can and cannot go, which your Gallery Consultant can walk you through during your appointment. For example, it can’t be placed inside your shower, but it can be a striking feature on a secondary wall, behind your bath or above your vanity, as long as the designated splash zone is adhered to and you have tiles acting as a buffer between the panelling and your basin or bathtub. If this sounds like it could be up your alley, just ask your Gallery Consultant!

For the perfect blend of timeless profiles with a contemporary feel, take a look at the decorative panelling from Surround by Laminex. To get you started, they’ve got the ever-popular look of the Classic VJ, or for those looking for an added touch of elegance, the French Stripe 30 brings a sense of depth and playfulness with equally spaced battens and grooves reflecting light and creating shadowplay.

2. Freestanding bathtubs

A big part of celebrating country interior design is about embracing the lifestyle that goes hand in hand with days spent outside battling the natural elements and nights spent cosying up by the fire or having a soak in the bathtub.

While claw foot baths are a classic feature of decades gone by, contemporary freestanding and back-to-wall bathtubs, like the pictured Alegra from Decina as seen in our Hann 35 on display in the Minta Farm Estate, give a similar feel of movement to your space with subtle curves and smooth edges. These softer shapes help to open your space up, while providing a timeless look that will always be on-trend.

3. Rustic finishes

For country-inspired design, it’s all about perfecting the balance between rustic and contemporary finishes. This week, we saw the Blockheads feature plenty of brass and copper tapware, which helps to bring warmth and an old-world feel to your space. From our supplier Alder Tapware, the AQUAZZONE Floor Mount Bath Filler Gooseneck in matt brass or matt copper is an elegant addition to your freestanding bathtub, or if you’re wanting to stick to a chrome finish, the Renascence and Renascence Heritage ranges from Alder bring the country charm. To finish off your vanity, explore the Greige Textile by Laminex, which gives a warm linen look to your benchtops and cabinetry.
